The one thing that Frank Giacoia never totally got right is how to render the Thing orange skin.
Obviously, not the case on this page which is some of the best rendition of our Blue Eyed Bashful Benjamin but it's more obvious in the inking Giacoia did for the last issues of Kirby's FF run.
I would guess that Frank Giacoia didn't like that much to trace all these jagged lines.
Something that didn't seem to bother Joe Sinnott at all, since he said in many interviews that the Thing was his favourite character.
Incindentally, this is another masterful page, Kirby and Giacoia rule!
This is where the look of the Thing finally started to be realized--with the hard edged line work and shading being more decisive. Even Vinnie when he took over for those few issues was inking a pretty cool looking Thing. And then when Joe came on, not so much the first issue he inked, but after inking a couple of issues--LOOK OUT NOW! KAPOW!! The Thing became the coolest looking character in comics.
You just admitted I got the best avatar!
