Art from the Beyond

Another great Demon page! Action, mystery, monsters, and even one of Etrigan's classic, rhyming incantations -- all on the same page!

Color glitches

When I zoomed in the first panel, I noticed some rainbow colors on the monster hand.

Yep there is

Unfortunately, if the scanner gets banged I get those lines. I usually can minimize them in Photoshop. Gladly this is rare.

Re: Color glitches

I was able to rescan this page last weekend without the glitch so the page is archived with a clean scan.

?

Hey--when's this site gonna see some action again? Almost 2 weeks since a comment and over a month since Kirby art.

New Addition is like Addiction

Frank is right and the situation is about to get out of control if Tom doesn't fix it fast.
I didn't get my Kirby art shot since so long… I fear, I might end up begging for some mere Colletta's inks.

What a revoltin' development this is!

Tumble weeds

Yes its been a couple of weeks since I've added art. Reason? My limited free time, time that I use to use to post new art has shifted to building the new Kirby Digital Archive website with the museum. This is WiK's gallery section on steroids. The new site will be organized as Collections and feature not only comic book art but pencil photocopies, collage, animation, rare letters and documents, and like WiK, comic book art.

I'm building this new site from scratch so its a huge undertaking and part of it will be to migrate all the pages on this new site plus more. The good thing is that I've streamlined the process of uploading art so it should go a little quicker. The bad thing is I have less time for posting new art and the new site's launch is months and months away.

I'll post some new pages soon on this site...

re: Tumble weeds

Really looking forward to this new site, Tom--sounds awesome.

But could you at least just put up 1 new art piece a week? One pic can get us Kirby enthusiast making comments for days. Lol. That'll blow the "tumble weeds" out.

Stumble weeks

Sounds interesting although I'm not sure to understand:
How, you guys, are going to maintain Wik and the Kirby Digital Archive if both are offering Kirby original art?

Re: Stumble weeks

Not exactly clear myself at this point. My original intension with creating WiK in 2001 was to have it as a place to see what if other inkers inked Kirby's pencils - mainly focused on previous Kirby inkers. The Gallery section of WiK was an add on in 2010 that has become the central part of the site. Not saying thats bad.

I feel with the wealth of content Rand and I have archived in the past 7 years, the archive deserves a bigger presence than WiK can provide. The Kirby Digital Archive would be a vehicle for this plus promote a bigger effort to grow the archive. In this case, the Gallery section of WiK would be migrated to this new site. WiK would be redesigned to do what it was meant to do, provide a place to compare Kirby pencils reimagined by other inkers. The new WiK site would have all the recreations/creations I've done with Royer, Sinnott, Ayers and others plus be an open site so other artist could submit their work. For example Frank's inking he's done.

All this will take a long time to put together and may require a volunteers for help.

re: Stumble weeks

Well when you put it that way.
Krackles, you concerned that both sites are going to be too much alike?

Frank Fosco's picture

re:re: Stumble weeks

That makes sense, Tom. Bring back WiK to the focus it was meant to be.

Humble Deeds

I was concerned with confusion and too many overlaps at the expense of both site. Plus, of course, time management issues for Tom. We have already noticed how much Wik frequency of updates has been affected since he is working on the Kirby Digital Archive.

Tom's answer has cleared up some of my concerns since it would make sense for Wik to go back to its roots.
However, I'm not that much convinced that Wik content should find its way in the Kirby Digital Archive.

Why not keep things simple and focused accordingly to each site's own promise?
Put all vintage Kirby original art (published or not) in Kirby Digital Archive while all What if scenarii (recreations/modern takes on Kirby by pros or amateurs) would fit nicely in Wik?

On a side note: since you mentioned it, what kind of help do you guys need?

"Why not keep things simple?
Put all vintage Kirby original art (published or not) in KDA while all recreations/modern takes on Kirby (pro or amateur) would fit nicely in Wik?"

From what I've read from Tom that's the plan.

Stumbled Indeed

I, indeed, misread what Tom wrote.
I had, somehow, managed to read that Wik recreations were also moving to the Kirby Digital Archive.

My mistake.

Jack Kirby's Superworld of Everything

Or, since Tom and Rand are working together so closely now, why not just put everything together in one big site, like the Kirby Museum, and load it to the rafters with whatever cool features you can think of, thereby providing an interactive mega-site that could be a one-stop information and entertainment center for Kirby fans the world over? Why put limits on it? Kirby wouldn't.

Mumble Need

Well, I, for one, would rather visit two websites with clear focus than a super bloated one!

Tom Kraft's picture

Re: Mumble Need

I agree with Krackles. The Digital Archive site is planned to be part of the Kirby Museum with the clear goal to showcase Kirby's art and manuscripts, much like a museum like the Smithsonian Digital Archive. The site would contain, theoretically thousands and thousands of pages of art and the full collection of pencil photocopies, of course without violating copyright laws.

WiK would be free to explore What if...without the burden of being an archive for everything Kirby did.

Now all I need is to clone myself 20 times!

Do I hear "Taps" playing?

So Tom, this site is pretty much stalled (almost said "dead") until the new one get's up and running and then making this site, WiK, the way you meant for it to be?

We still a couple of months or so before this happening?

Photocopies of the pencils

Photocopies of the pencils for THE DEMON #4 almost certainly exist. Issues 1-3, and 5-13, 15,16 are all blessed with nearly complete sets of copies. It's likely one of the Kirby heirs has the copies for issue #4 and Issue #14.
