Tips and information on how to find the Kirby Art you're seeking.
Right on the money, Patrick.
The thing with Colletta is I don't hear anyone saying they like his inks on Colan, or posting they sit around wishing he could have inked Neal Adams, or Wally Wood. The whole "controversy" seems to concern only Colletta inking Kirby, and the people who like Colletta on Kirby seem to like it because it's what they grew up with.
If Colletta fans really loved his work they would be wondering how great it would have been if only Colletta had inked Steve Ditko. People say, "Well Colletta doesn't work on Ditko, Colan, or Adams." The fact is Colletta had a personal style more similar to something like Adams than Kirby. I'd say there is no artist less suited to Colletta's inks than Kirby, but I didn't grow up seeing Kirby/Colletta month after month and loving Thor. I read Thor in the '70s after I had seen Kirby inked by Royer.
Incidentally, these 2 comparison pages you added are already some of the better Colletta's efforts which is not a way to say I appreciate the result anyway.
As far as Vinnie is concerned, I left hope behind long time ago. Yesterday, I picked up a Submariner Essential Vol. 1 for the late Gene Colan's art and I can tell you what Vinnie did with Colan's pencils is murder.
Bad timing, really.
...if possible. One must hope.
Not possible Tom, unless you are asking for me to drop leaving comments altogether.
Which I did on the Byrne website for the very same reason:
If I'm not allowed to give full appreciation on art, both positive or negative, I won't do it at all.
What can be asked for is to fully articulate an argumentation to support an opinion and certainly not a truncated one for politically correctness purpose.
I added 2 Jimmy Olsen comparisons:
If possible, please reframe from telling us how much you dislike Colletta's inks. We have those comments on almost every Colletta page along with ones stating they like them.
OK but what about the zoom feature? It's gone!
Did I miss something?
Forget about it, it's back after I turned off the flash blocker plugin!
I forgot Zoomify was a flash tool, damn it.
I don't see the boxes now either, so your fix must've worked, Tom. Damn! Just when I was about to get rid of Internet Explorer. Guess I'll have to keep it now! I MUST be old!!
Very good. Just two so far, but the mechanism is in place.
Whatever you just did, it seems to have worked Tom. I don't see the boxes anymore. Thanks! :)
By the way this could be the issue Hans and John were experiencing with the boxes. Guys please check and let me know if its still happening. I have a PC with IE9 and didn't see the boxes when I logged in...
For some reason Facebook changed their iFrame code to place a box in the middle of the page that prevented clicking on the tabs and some of the Recent Added art items. No idea why but when I removed the Facebook Like button in the Footer everything was back to normal. Krackles let me know if you have any other issues.
Ye gads, man--he's givin' 'er all she's got, cap'n!
We can't zoom in anymore?
I just added the page 1 splash page to Mister Miracle 7 with comparisons. I also added a way for you to filter pages on the site to just ones with photocopy comparisons. Here is how:
1. At the top of all pages is the small white links such as Log In, Comments, Contact, Search etc. Click on "Art by Page".
2. You will see all the pages currently on WiK. At the top just above the art is a row of sorting filters. The last one is "Pencils to Inks." Click on this.
3. From the popup select "True," meaning there are comparisons. The art will automatically resort to show just pages that have the photocopy comparison feature.
This way it will be easy to find all the added comparisons without clicking and looking for them. I plan to add this to other sorting views like "Art Listings" and "Art Index" in the future.
Oh and enjoy!
